In China not only intellectual, dissident artists have a tough life – think political repression, threatening, even imprisonment – their partners suffer, too. Liu Xia is one of those – she is the wife of Liu Xiaobo, writer, Nobel Peace Prize winner and dissident of China’s leading party. He has been in prison for almost five years now and Liu Xia herself has been under house arrest since 2010, although she was never charged with a crime. The World ca. 1914 – Color Photography before the Great War” is a new exhibition in Berlin showing color photographs from Europe, Asia and Africa during the turn of the 19/20th century up to 1914, the year of the break-out of World War I.

“Evidence”, Ai Wei Wei’s most recent exhibition in Berlin, Germany, closes with a record attendance of almost 250.000 visitors within 14 weeks. The exhibition was one of the largest ones by the Chinese artist so far, with Berlin’s famous Martin Gropius museum building being the ideal location, offering spacious exhibition halls for Ai Wei Wei’s art installations.
